Our BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Dance has been designed to provide our students with a strong dance foundation. They will receive training in the following disciplines:

- Tap
- Contemporary
- Creative
- Ensemble Singing
- Acting
- Professional Studies
- Acting Through Song (Top up only)
- Acting For Screen (Top up only)
- Body Conditioning (Top up only)
- Commercial
- Voice (Top up only)
- Floor Barre (Top up only)
- Pilates (Top up only)
- One to One Singing Lesson (Top up only)
- One to One Acting Lesson (Top up only)
It affords learners the opportunity to:
- Develop skills and techniques needed for performance in a variety of styles.
- Choreograph and perform in a range settings.
- Learn about the Performing Arts Industry.
- Explore self-promotion and networking including producing a personal project.
- Create and perform in a Collaborative Performing Arts Production.
All units consist of a range of formal assessment tasks which include:
- Practical performance
- Observation of rehearsals
- Presentations
- Essays
- Research logs
- Skills assessments such as: audits, target setting, evaluations
- Logbooks and journals
- Research and character development

Year Two
Year two builds on the skills gained in the first year.
Module G: Personal Performing Arts Profile – 270 GLH
- Unit G17 – Using Development Plans to Refine Skills
- Unit G18 – Producing a Personal Project
- Unit G19 – Using Material for Self-promotion and Networking
Collaborative Performing Arts Project – 270 GLH
- Unit H20 Undertaking a Defined Creative or Administrative Role ED
- Unit H21 Using Creative Collaboration to Develop a Project
- Unit H22 Producing a Collaborative Project
Upon successful completion of year two, the qualification will transfer to an Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (Dance), equivalent to 3 A Levels. Learners are awarded with three overall grades, equating to UCAS points for progression on to higher education in dance.
ISTD Diploma in Dance Education
In addition to their BTEC studies, learners will study for the ISTD Level 4 DDE. This qualification provides student teachers with a clear route to becoming a qualified dance teacher with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and allows the opportunity to engage with up-to-date research in best practice related to dance teaching and learning.
Course Breakdown
Year One
- Unit 1: Preparing for Safe Teaching (15 credits at Level 3)
- Unit 3: Vocational Graded Examination in Dance: Intermediate (28 credits at Level 3)
Year Two
- Unit 2: Observing, Assisting and Teaching Practice (30 credits at Level 4)
- Unit 4: Dance Practice (30 credits at Level 4)
- Unit 5: Social, Emotional and Cognitive Development (17 credits at Level 4)
Total: 120 credits
